The ceaseless din of busy lives has killed our acquaintance with silence.  Consequently we are stressed and anxious.  When we meditate we do so in the promise that we Enter the secret temple of our deepest belonging.  Only in this temple can our hungriest longing find stillness and peace. (John O Donoghue) Join us in an exploration of Meditation as the path to presence and to being at ease with the unsolved and the unfinished in our lives.

Ecological Spirituality:

Finding Our Home in the Earth

8 nights, beginning Thursday 2 October 2008 (7pm – 9.30pm)

St. Patrick's College, Thurles, Co. Tipperary

Do you question, like St. Paul, why you do not understand your own actions, not doing what you want to do, but instead doing the very thing you hate? (Rom 7:15) We live out of a story of origin which implies that the gifts of creation are there for the use and benefit of humanity, which has frequently been employed in the past to exploit our natural resources. This story gives a much distorted image of God, of ourselves, and of our relationship to the earth, which is our home. It has taken one tenth of one percent of earth’s history for humanity to destroy its ecological and spiritual home. Through our loss of connection with our deepest selves we have grown into a species simultaneously dangerous and endangered. Hopelessness seems to have become our everyday companion. This suffering can either consume or transform us. Will we choose death or life?

Cosmology is the emerging story of the birth, development and destiny of the universe and our place within it. Ecological Spirituality is an approach to spirituality that looks to our earth home to shape and form our spirituality.

The aim of this introductory course is to lead participants on a journey into the story of the universe through lecture, story, contemplation, music, movement, poetry and ritual, and to explore a spirituality that embraces our human story and the story of the earth as one story. As we listen to the universe telling her story we will grow in appreciation of how the integration of this unfolding story into every aspect of our lives is without doubt, the “great work” of our time.
